Turning ideas into projects
Updated on 17.09.2026
An idea has been accepted — what now? The projects module gives the implementation a home: who is involved, what the next steps are, what you show the outside world and how you talk to each other. Deliberately lean: no tickets, no dependencies, no time tracking.
Create a project#
Under Moderation → Projects you create a project: title, short description, time frame. You also name the project leads and the members — both are users of your instance.
Link ideas#
Attach one or more ideas. Related ideas can be bundled that way: three proposals about cycling become one project. An idea belongs to at most one project; its page then shows a note that it is being implemented.
Set milestones#
Write down the next steps with a due date. Every project member may tick them off — recording progress is the whole point. Overdue steps are highlighted, and the next open one appears in every overview.
Talk and report#
Use the conversation for short updates; anyone who was away sees a badge with the number of new messages. For anything meant for the outside world, the project leads create project pages.
Who may do what?#
Three roles, clearly separated — above all when publishing:
- Project leads — run the project: members, milestones, master data, project pages and publishing them.
- Members — read everything in the project, tick milestones and write messages. They can read pages but not change them.
- Instance moderators — create, archive and delete projects, and may do everything a lead may do, in every project.
Sharing project pages#
A project page is a formatted page — state of play, schedule, costs. The project leads can make it public through a link: readable without signing in, but with no access to the rest of the project. Optionally with a password and with a date after which the link stops working. Search engines do not index these pages.
Common questions#
I cannot see the "Projects" menu entry.
Then the module is not booked for this instance. Under Moderation → Plan you will find the "Add-on modules" section. Booking requires complete billing details, because the module is a paid one.
Can I add someone who has no account in our instance?
No. Project members are always users of your instance. You reach people outside through a publicly shared project page — with a password if needed.
What happens to the ideas if I delete a project?
The ideas are kept in full and only lose the link. What is deleted is the project, its milestones, pages and messages — and with them every public link to those pages.
Do I get an email for every message?
No. The first message of a burst is announced right away, everything within the next hour arrives as one bundled email. You can switch it off entirely under Notifications in your own area.
