Continuous improvement (CIP)
The continuous improvement process (CIP) improves products, processes and quality continuously in many small steps.
CIP does not rely on one big leap but on steady small improvements that everyone involved contributes. The principle comes from Japanese Kaizen and is a core part of quality-management systems. The basic cycle is: plan, do, check, act (PDCA).
For CIP to work, it needs a low barrier to submitting and visible feedback. When staff see their suggestions taken up, a genuine improvement culture emerges. CIP and the employee suggestion scheme go hand in hand.
The CIP principle
- Many small steps instead of one big reform
- Everyone involved contributes ideas
- PDCA cycle: plan, do, check, act
- Origins in Japanese Kaizen
MyIdeas supports continuous improvement: collect improvement ideas with a low barrier, prioritise them and make progress transparently visible.
